A Nigerian acid survivor, Frances Obanye has lifted her voice up in gratitude to God for giving her a second lease of life after having a close shave with death.
Frances, in an interview with BBC News Pidgin, recounted how her uncle’s wife entered her room while she was asleep and poured her a bucket of acid.
She said the unfortunate incident happened in 2004 when she was just a 9 years old.
According to her, after her aunty poured the acid on her, the woman said:
“Oh, I thought it was Obiora.” Obiora is Frances’ brother and her parents’ only son.
The young survivor advised people living with scars to be confident and let people know that their lives can still be beautiful.
A Facebook user, Badmus Aramide Tiaranioluwa also shared Frances’ story and people reacted.
She quoted Frances as saying: “16years Anniversary Acid Survivor. “The Acid couldn’t take my life away, I’m still alive thanks to God and I still feel beautiful. Help me say thank you to God!”
