Ali Mahdi Muhammad, former President of Somalia has passed away.
The Ministry of Information spokesperson, Isamel Mukhtaar Omar confirmed that Muhammad died in Nairobi, Kenya.
A three-days mourning period has been declared. The government has appointed a National Funeral Committee.
Muhammad, 82, was the fourth President of Somalia. He was in power from January 26, 1991, until January 1997.
The native of Mahaday District of the Middle Shabelle became a member of parliament in 1968.
The deceased was a businessman before he took over the country’s leadership after the military government was toppled.
