The capital city of Edo state, Benin city was thrown into jubilation after INEC declared the incumbent Governor and the flag bearer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the just concluded governorship election in the state.
Governor Godwin Obaseki of PDP polled 307,955 votes to defeat his closest rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of the All Progressives Congress, who got 223,619 votes as declared by the National Electoral Commission.
Earlier monday, it was a mini carnival when the Governor took to the streets with his teeming supporters in celebration of the election victory.
With the announcement of the results by INEC who declared the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki as the winner, there was massive joy in the state as people trooped out to the streets in jubilation.
The governor still in jubilation mood with his vice latter declared Friday as a work free day for the workers in the state in order to appreciate their efforts in helping him clinching victory over his closest rival pastor Ize iyamu who is having the support and backup of former Governor of the state and former national chairman of the All Progressive congress in the person of Adams Oshiomole.
The celebration in the streets of Edo therefore, show the solidarity of the people who stood with their governor to win a common battle.
